Stovetop Stuffing

Stuffing is one of my absolute favorite Thanksgiving side dishes. It’s comforting and filling. My recipe is full of flavor from the fresh herbs to the tender vegetables with a hint of sweetness from apples. Let’s make it!

Timing Is Everything

Prep Time: 15 mins

Cook Time: 20 mins

Ingredients

1 bag of pre-made stuffing mix (i used a mix of pepperidge farm herbed stuffing and cornbread stuffing)

4 tbsps unsalted butter

1 cup celery diced

1 carrots diced

1/2 onion diced

1 apple diced (I used honey crisp but you can use any kind of apple)

1 cup broth (I used vegetable but you can use chicken if you’d like)

1 tsp fresh herbs (rosemary, thyme, parsley, chives, green onions)

It’s Stuffing Time!

In a large pot, melt 4 tbsps of butter on medium heat. Once the butter is melted and bubbly, add your celery, carrots, and onions. Once the veggies are tender, add the apple.

When the apple becomes soft and not mushy, add the 1 cup of vegetable broth. Let the veggies, apple, and broth mixture come to boil. Turn off the heat and take the pot off the heat.

Add the stuffing mix in the pot. Stir gently for a couple minutes. Cover for 5 minutes so the mix soaks up the veggies, apple, and broth so it becomes soft. I always end up adding at least 1/2 cup more of heated broth to add more moisture and covering it for 5 minutes. It’s all about what you like as far as the texture and moisture goes.

If making a day early, place stuffing in a large tin foil container. Top with herbs for color. Cover with foil. Heat for 20 minutes.

Final Thoughts

I hope you enjoy this recipe. Stuffing is a staple in my household. How about you?
