The Met Gala is usually an annual fashion event held on the first Monday in May but COVID-19 postponed the event. On September 13th, fashion’s biggest night was held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. The gala celebrated the newest exhibition of the Costume Institute, “In America: A Lexicon of Fashion”. The co-chairs are singer Billie Eilish, actor Timothée Chalamet, tennis star Naomi Osaka, and poet Amanda Gorman.
While I’m not an expert on fashion nor am I a huge fashion fan, something draws me into watching the Met Gala. Part of me likes to watch so I can give constructive criticism but I honestly think another part of me actually enjoys it. I love art and fashion is a form of art. It’s a way to express yourself and I think that’s exactly what the Met Gala does. It allows celebrities to think outside the box and incorporate themselves through what they wear.
With that being said, I wanted to share my favorite looks from the 2021 Met Gala. Let’s start, shall we?
Lili Reinhart

Lili’s dress is designed by Christian Siriano. She shared on her Instagram story that her dress incorporates the official flowers of all 50 states of America. At first, I didn’t love this look but the more I looked at it and found out the meaning behind it, the more I fell in love with it. This look screams Lili Reinhart. It’s delicate, feminine, and makes a statement.
Amanda Gorman

Amanda’s dress is designed by Vera Wang. She was one of the first ones to appear on the red carpet and she definitely made a statement. The color of this dress is stunning and I love her braid. She looks amazing.
Yara Shahidi

Yara’s dress is designed by Dior. She looks like a princess. She looks so regal and elegant. I love that this dress isn’t flashy and that the colors are delicate. This look flatters her so well. I love her hairstyle with this look.
Zoey Deutch

My jaw dropped when I first say Zoey because it didn’t look like her at all to me. The hair, the makeup, the color of the dress. This look is everything. I love that she’s channeling Cher here.
Kendall Jenner

Kendall Jenner is wearing Givenchy. While I’m not a fan of her, I think she’s looks amazing. The detailing on this dress is so intricate and beautiful. Her hairstyle definitely complements the look well.
Imaan Hammam

Imaan Hammam looks absolutely stunning in this star-embellished dress.
Kaia Gerber

Kaia Gerber is wearing Oscar de la Renta. Gerber channels Bianca Jagger’s 1981 Met Gala look. I love how simple yet sophisticated this look is. She’s glowing.
Zoë Kravitz

Zoë is wearing Ralph Lauren. This mesh dress is so cool. I feel like if anyone can rock a dress like this, it’s Zoë. She looks so good.
Gigi Hadid

Gigi Hadid is wearing Prada. I still prefer her 2018 look to this one but I’m digging the red hair. While I’m not the biggest fan of this look, she pulls it off so well.
Camila Cabello

Camila is wearing Michael Kors. I’m not the biggest fan of Camila but wow. I love this look. The purple is so flattering on her. I love the eye-shadow.
Megan Thee Stallion

Megan Thee Stallion is wearing Coach. I honestly expected something more extravagant from her but I actually love this dress. It’s classy and her hairstyle pairs beautifully with it. I’m living for the Old Hollywood vibes.
Madison Beer

Madison Beer showed up wearing this stunning emerald gown. Many people on Twitter say she looks like she’s going to prom but I love this dress. It’s beautiful and she looks really great.
Emily Blunt

Emily Blunt is wearing custom Miu Miu with a constellation headpiece. She looks like a space angel. I actually wish the white cape was removable because I would have loved to have seen what this dress looks like without it. Either way, she looks so pretty in this.
Megan Fox

Megan Fox is wearing Dundas. She has fed us so well in the last couple of days. The red is so flattering on her. I’m not a huge fan of the bangs but the extra-long braid is so cool.
Sienna Miller

Sienna Miller is wearing Gucci. Like Megan Thee Stallion and Kaia Gerber, she is channeling Old Hollywood with this look. Glam but elegant. Her makeup and hairstyle are simple which I like since the dress makes a statement already.
Nikkie de Jager aka NikkieTutorials

Nikkie de Jager is wearing this beautiful and colorful dress that pays homage to trans icon Marsha P. Johnson. I’m in love with the color. She looks so beautiful.
Keke Palmer

Keke Palmer stuns in this beautiful and glittery gown. When I saw her, I was like, “Is that Keke Palmer?” The hair, the makeup. She looks amazing. I love this dress on her.
Olivia Rodrigo

Olivia Rodrigo is wearing Saint Laurent. This look fits her personality so well as it pays homage to American punk music. While she’s only 18, she looks so mature and grown up in this bodysuit.
Tessa Thompson

Tessa Thompson is wearing Iris Van Herpen. This minidress is not my cup of tea but she rocks it. I love this look on her. The boots and the red eyeshadow. Such a power move.
Barbie Ferreira

Barbie Ferreira is wearing Jonathan Simkhai. I’m not a fan of the hair but I love the pearl-encrusted dress. I love the purple eyeshadow as it adds some color to the look.
Kristen Stewart

Kristen Stewart is wearing Chanel. I do have to say I don’t love this look but Kristen knocks it out of the park. She’s known for her unique sense of style and I can’t picture anyone else wearing this outfit but her. I love the makeup but I’m not a fan of the hairstyle.
Closing Thoughts
While it wasn’t an entirely memorable Met Gala, there were a lot of looks that I genuine liked or loved. I do think the 2018 Met Gala takes the cake for being the most memorable and included beautiful looks. This was very different for me as far as content goes. I never really write anything fashion or beauty related but I had so much fun putting this piece together.
I want you all to remember these are MY favorite looks. You don’t have to agree with me because we’re all individuals and we all have different opinions but at least respect my opinions.
I may do more fashion and/or beauty related articles if something comes up that I want to write about for you all.
Hope you enjoyed this rundown of my favorite looks from the 2021 Met Gala.
