Season 1 of ‘Poker Face’: Natasha Lyonne Shines In This Clever Whodunnit Series

Season 1 of Poker Face premiered on Peacock on January 26, 2023. the series follows Charlie Cale (Natasha Lyonne), a woman who is able to tell when someone is lying, as she encounters crimes while she’s on the road.

The series comes from the mind of Rian Johnson who created the Knives Out universe. It’s clear that Johnson has perfected the murder mystery formula with the inclusion of a modern twist. I would describe this show as an anthology since 8 episodes tell different stories. the only common denominator is Charlie.

Each episode features incredibly crafted performances from a slew of famous faces such as Nick Nolte, Benjamin Bratt, Lil Rel Howery, Judith Light, S. Epatha Merkerson, and Stephanie Hsu.

Natasha Lyonne gives an outstanding performance as Charlie Cale. She has masterful comedic timing. This role gives her more to play with in a physical and emotional sense.

If I have to choose my top 5 favorite episodes, I’d choose Time of the Monkey, Escape From Shit Mountain, The Future of the Sport, The Hook, and Dead Man’s Hand. These episodes are standouts for me as far as the acting, production, and stories go.

It was refreshing not knowing what each episode was going to be about and who exactly was going to be in it. If you love mysteries, endless twists, and Natasha Lyonne, this is a show you need to watch.

Peacock renewed Poker Face in February of 2023 for season 2! Guess we can look forward to seeing what Charlie gets into next season and the array of faces we could see.
