Season 4 of ‘Cobra Kai’ Strikes Hard with No Mercy

Cobra Kai made its debut on YouTube in 2018. At the time, I wasn’t aware that the show existed. In 2019, I was surfing on Netflix and came across the series. My mom and I watched trailer. We were immediately intrigued. Cobra Kai is based on The Karate Kid film trilogy. The first season takes place after the All Valley tournament match between Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio) and Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka). 3 years after the released of season 1, season 4 was released on Netflix on December 31, 2021. My mom and I binged the season in 1 day. That’s how good it was. I wanted to share my thoughts on the new season and why you should watch it. Let’s get into this.
Let’s start with the acting. The acting in this show is so good. I love this cast so much. They put so much effort into bringing their characters to life. The character I enjoyed the most this season is Eli aka Hawk (Jacob Bertrand). I enjoyed his storyline and the writers fully redeemed him from the aftermath of last season. It was just nice to see him accept himself for who he is.
The story this season was a bit more interesting than last season. There was a lot going on with multiple storylines happening at once. Almost every character had a storyline even Anthony LaRusso (Griffin Santopietro) and his was the most realistic. I’m not going to spoil anything because I hate spoilers myself so don’t worry.
The writing is always consistent. The comedy is genius and effortless. Some of the one-liners catch you off-guard because you don’t expect them.
While this season was very good, there were things I didn’t love. I’m getting tired of the Sam LaRusso (Mary Mouser) and Tory Nichols (Peyton List) dynamic. It’s getting old. I really hope they reconcile next season and try to resolve their issues.
I didn’t love Sam for the majority of the season. I understand what Tory did to her was horrible but that’s no excuse for her to act the same way. She was so petty. It was unnecessary.
I didn’t love Sam and Miguel Diaz’s (Xolo Maridueña) storyline. Their chemistry felt off and they didn’t have as many scenes as they did last season (even though they weren’t even a couple for most of season 3).
If you haven’t watched season 4 yet, you should. Overall, it’s a good season full of storylines that will keep you entertained and interested.
If you haven’t watched Cobra Kai in general, what are you waiting for? It’s a great show with humor, action, and a lot of heart. I promise you won’t be disappointed.
If you’re a fan of the show, you’re probably asking “Is there going to be a season 5?” and I can definitely answer this for you. The series got renewed for another season back in August of last year. The cast and crew just finished filming. The new season may come out at the end of this year but I’m hoping that it will come out earlier than that, possibly in the summer or fall. We’ll just have to wait and see.
Cobra Kai is exclusively streaming on Netflix.
