‘Freakier Friday’ Is A Freakquel Full of Humor and Nostalgia

Freakier Friday was released in theaters on August 8, 2025. The film tells the story of Anna (Lindsay) and Tess (Jamie Lee Curtis) two decades after they faced an identity crisis. They find themselves repeating history all over again with the next generation. Let’s get into this.

When I found out that a sequel to Freaky Friday was in the works, I freaked out (naturally), especially when I heard that most of the original cast was coming back to reprise their roles. I know Jamie Lee Curtis is the one who went to Bob Iger and told him she wanted a sequel made, more so because she kept getting fans asking her about a sequel.

I’m not going to lie, I was a bit nervous about this film because I had high expectations going into it because the original film is one of my favorite films of all-time. When I was younger, my mom and I would take road trips to Disney World and I would bring my portable DVD player with me. I’d watch Freaky Friday and The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement, more specifically I was obsessed with the special features.

Anyways, let’s move onto the review for the sequel. I went to see the film with my mom, and we had the best time. We laughed so much. I cried a little bit. This film brings these characters back to life with so much heart and humor. Jamie Lee Curtis is a master of physical comedy. She’s so good in this film. Same goes for Lindsay Lohan. They both slip back into these roles like no time has past for them.

I had heart palpitations when Chad Michael Murray popped onto our big screen. I think the moment that hit me the most is when Pink Slip performed Take Me Away. The nostalgia crashed into me like a huge ocean wave crashing onto shore. Christina Vidal Mitchell performs this song like her life depends on it. She has this incredible stage presence and so does Lindsay Lohan.

I do have to mention the performances given by Julia Butters and Sophia Hammons because their chemistry with Lohan and Lee Curtis was so effortless. Harper and Lily were such great opposites that balanced each other out so well. I remember when I watched Butters in Once Upon A Time In Hollywood. She was so young, and it’s so cool to see her thrive within a film like this.

All in all, this is the best sequel I’ve watched in a long time. If you love the original film like I do, you have to see this.
