‘Ghost Whisperer’ Spooks Its Way Into Our Hearts

Ghost Whisperer premiered on September 23, 2005 on CBS. The series ran for five seasons. It follows the story of a woman named Melinda Gordon (Jennifer Love Hewitt) who can see and talk to ghosts.

I’ve been wanting to watch this show for so long, but I haven’t gotten around to it until now. My mom got sucked into watching one of the episodes from season four (if you know, you know) on Pluto TV. Then, I got sucked in. We were so confused on what was happening, but were intrigued enough to want to watch the show from the very beginning.

I’ve always loved paranormal/supernatural films and TV shows. The very first book I wrote (but never finished) was a paranormal romance. I fell in love with Ghost Whisperer from the pilot, which is a rare occurrence for me. It usually takes me a few episodes to truly to dive into a new TV show.

Anyway, I fell deeply in love with the world John Gray created along with the characters and the relationship between Melinda and her husband, Jim (David Conrad). Jim Clancy is the TV husband. I cannot tell you I haven’t loved a fictional TV husband as much as I love him. He’s so patient with Melinda, and you can tell how much he genuinely loves her.

Jennifer Love Hewitt brings Melinda to life so well. Her innocence and selflessness is something given the territory of her gift that made complete sense. I loved Andrea (Aisha Tyler) so much. I also loved Professor Rick Payne (Jay Mohr) because of the comedic relief he brought to the show. I grew to enjoy Professor Eli James (Jamie Kennedy), but it took a little bit for him to get on my good side.

The series mostly similar to Law & Order: SVU in the sense that each episode usually follows a different story, but does have a central story relating to the main character going on.

Don’t worry I’m not going to be discussing major spoilers here. I can say I didn’t love the major pivot the show took in season four, and I didn’t love how there were quite a few plot inconsistencies. For example, with Ned Banks (Christoph Sanders), Delia’s (Camryn Manheim), the timeline made no sense. He was such a grumpy, angsty kid and turns into this happy-go-lucky teenager/young-adult. There were a lot of things that happened that felts so unrealistic to me, too.

As much as I adore the show, I understand why it got cancelled. The final season felt draggy and all over the place. It’s almost as if they didn’t know where to go with the story anymore.

This show definitely solidified my love for the paranormal/supernatural genre even more.
