‘Swiped’ Introduces Us to the Girlboss Who Took the Dating App World By Storm

Swiped released on Hulu on September 19, 2025. It tells the story of Whitney Wolfe Herd (Lily James), the co-founder of Tinder and the founder/CEO of Bumble. The film is based on a true story with some dramatization. Let’s get into this.

As someone who met her boyfriend on a dating app, I knew I wanted to learn more about Whitney Wolfe Herd’s origin story. When I heard about this film, I put it on my calendar because I wanted to check it out. I have to say I was particularly impressed by Lily James’ performance. She’s quite the chameleon, and I’m not surprised she put her all into this role.

Now, I’m sure there’s a lot more to Herd’s story, but it was interesting to learn more about the first woman who took a major tech company public. Seeing more women in male-dominated industries like tech isn’t just changing the game, it’s allowing women to make their dreams a reality. This film highlights what it can be like for women in male-dominated fields, specifically women who are the only women in the room.

On another note, it was interesting learning more about the origins of Tinder and Bumble. I had no idea a woman was involved in co-founding/founding either of them. Herd’s journey isn’t something that’s earned, it’s climbing a very long ladder to get where you want to be.

Overall, this film is an inspiring story of resilience, taking control of the narrative, and standing up for what you believe in.
