‘Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story’: A Royal Romance Blooms Amidst Heartbreak
Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story was released on May 4, 2023 on Netflix. It’s a spinoff of the hit series Bridgerton. The spinoff-series follows a young Queen Charlotte (India Amarteifio) as she embraces her new life as the Queen of England and the wife of King George (Corey Mylchreest). I watched the highly anticipated limited series and I’d like to share my thoughts with all of you. Let’s get into this.
When the official trailer was released, I had a strong feeling that this was going to be good. I was wrong. It was amazing. I think I may have enjoyed a little more than Bridgerton. I don’t know why.
I want to talk about the acting first because the performances in this were brilliant. Amarteifio is a marvel as young Queen Charlotte. She looks so much like what Golda Rosheuvel would’ve looked like when she was that age. The casting department really knocked it out of the park. Amarteifio brought her life so effortlessly. You can’t take your eyes off her when she’s on the small screen.
Mr. Corey Mylchreest, wow. Just wow. He had me swooning. George’s personal story was devastating and complex one. I could relate to his inner thoughts and feelings. He brought humanity and the best parts of George out.
My heart couldn’t take the pain and agony when it came to Queen Charlotte and King George’s love story. Episode 6 had me bawling my eyes out. I sat on my bed for several minutes to absorb what I just watched. Amarteifio and Mylchreest’s chemistry was electric and genuine.
Not only did they break my heart but Brimsley (Sam Clemmett) and Reynolds (Freddie Dennis) completely destroyed it. Their love story was heartbreaking. The chemistry between Clemmett and Dennis was so authentic.
I loved getting to learn more about Lady Danbury. (Adjoa Andoh). I appreciated that her younger self (Arsema Thomas) is still a part of her and that she always remained to be the same person she always has been. I loved that Lady Danbury always exuded confidence and knew what she wanted.
The little tastes we got into Lady Violet Bridgerton’s (Ruth Gemmell) past as a young lady gives me hope that we could get a spin-off for her. I’d love to see her and Edmund’s love story.
The vibes in the Bridgerton universe are everything. This show transports you into the era with how incredible the costumes and production design are.
I enjoyed this show a lot. I’m so glad we were able to see how Queen Charlotte came to be the Queen of England and learn more about Lady Danbury, Lady Bridgerton, and Brimsley.
